For Whom the Cat Bell Tolls
I completely ripped off that title from this story about a cat who can tell when a hospice patient is about to die, and curls up with them for the last several hours of their lives. It's quite remarkable.

Agnes and I saw this story the other night and found it quite moving. I'm not a huge fan of cats--though I live with two, which came with Agnes as part of the relationship package--but it's comforting to know that at the end of one's life, there was someone there.

This is a wonderful story.
There was a local story a year ago about a woman whose dog sniffed one breast and wouldn't leave it alone. She went to the doc's and lo, it was cancer.
An oncologist friend later confirmed that certain cancers have a smell and that animals with keen smell sense can detect them.
