Very cool. I want to pull off the bag lady chic thing, but I think I'm going to have to learn to knit so I can make hats that will fit my oddly shaped head. Easier solution: Shave my head. I'm SO glad you haven't been abducted by aliens (as far as I can tell) or eaten by George W. Bush in a fundamentalist Christian ritual.

These are lovely; you've almost convinced me to take up knitting (in my "spare" time!). I also like the photos. I followed the link to the "knitty" page and there was another photo that I liked a lot, the one with the ancient black phone and black gloves. I have worn half-finger gloves for ages: useful for reading and writing outside when the temperature begins to drop, though back in Colorado they would be a bit too cold once the snow fell. I could buy the ones that have a mitten that buttons open for when you need your fingers and closes when you don't, but honestly those were a bit clumsy and inelegant looking. Yours look both useful and elegant.

Glad you all like the look of the gloves! Revena, DPNs are no big deal, really--I was intimidated, but when I finally tried them, I discovered this great benefit to them: you never have to deal with wrong side work; you just knit and knit. The pattern I link to really is pretty darn easy. I know you don't need wook gloves in Arizona, but maybe you have a friend who lives someplace cold...?

Well, since I'm a native Tucsonan, I do actually get cold enough during the winter to wear gloves, now and then. And I've got family that I go and visit in Utah and Montana.

I've actually been crochetting fingerless gloves of a similar design for myself for some time, though - what I really want to learn DPNs for is socks. Oh, how I love socks! It'd be awesome to make my own.

Two of the people on my journal (gender & law) bring craft projects to submissions meetings. One knits, while the other does the thing of stitching a picture onto a white cloth supported by a round frame -- my mom used to do this but I cannot remember the term.

Depending on the stitches, it's either embroidery or needle point.
