I'm a poet / essayist / memoirist/
journalist (in the sense of keeping a journal, not of working for a newspaper) and it occurred to me that a blog fits in with all that. If Montaigne, father of the essay, were alive today, he'd keep a blog. This is my self-portrait as frustrated artist who can't believe she's not famous yet. (And because it's part of my artistic endeavor, the whole damn thing is copyrighted. All rights reserved.)

What I've Learned about Myself from Taking Online Multiple Choice Tests

Your Quirk Factor: 79%
You're so quirky, it's hard for you to tell the difference between quirky and normal. No doubt about it, there's little about you that's "normal" or "average."
How Quirky Are You?
You Have Low Self Esteem 0% of the Time
Which can be translated to mean, you have high self-esteem and a healthy sense of self worth. You believe in yourself, and you know how to be the real you. You love yourself, imperfections and all.
How is Your Self Esteem?

Here's another assessment of myself these tests help provide, but there's no cool graphic for it:

You disdain online tests that purport to tell you who you are--they are generally silly, transparent and written by people who can't plan adequately for complexity--but sometimes you take them anyway, just so you can feel superior.

That perfect-self-esteem icon looks a bit anorexic to me.

Well, my quirk factor is 39%. Not too exciting, I guess. Let's check out my self esteem. Check you in a bit.

Posted by: Hattie at May 5, 2006 6:35 PM

I got 0% too. I am not overly complacent or narcissistic, so it must be the friggin' quiz.

Posted by: Hattie at May 5, 2006 6:41 PM

My quirk factor is 39% and my low self esteem factor is 0%. I think the previous percentage reflects reality, but that second one is dubious.
A little diversion for a rainy day is nice.

That perfect-self-esteem icon looks a bit anorexic to me.

She is awfully skinny, isn't she, Chris? And Hattie, you're right: it was far too easy to score 0% low self-esteem on that quiz. It didn't ask questions like, "Do you ever worry that you'll never manage to write a book anyone wants to publish, and does this make you feel really crappy from time to time?" or "Are you sometimes really freaked out by aging, even if you don't obsess over it every day?"

Sorry for the funny posts. I hit the wrong keys, or something.
Well, I'm old and no one will ever publish my novel, because it died somewhere around the sixth chapter. But hey I'm happy. I've got the Internet!

No apology necessary, Hattie; I'm delighted when you stop by!

Posted by: Holly at May 6, 2006 5:15 PM

You have similar facial features to myself, in some respects. However, your nose is more aquiline.

Posted by: Jennifer Cascadia at May 6, 2006 11:14 PM

I did a "bad faith" version of the self-esteem quiz because I couldn't believe it was possible to have low self-esteem "zero percent" of the time. I thought it might be a bit of a joke: now matter how bad you make things seem, I thought the quiz would just give a perky "hang in there, you're great!" kind of message. So I ticked all but two of the boxes and got -- 84%! Well, at least it wasn't a joke. I hope the police aren't on their way to prevent a suicide or anything. It did recommend that I make a new friend...or something perky like that.

I liked some of the quizzes on the sidebar and asked what Tarot card I was. I'm the High Priestess -- coooool...
